Background:
SRCS is an independent, non-political humanitarian organisation. It was established in April 1963 and became a legal entity following Presidential Decree No. 187 in 1965. SRCS has operated continuously throughout the country’s period of civil war and political divide and is credited for its unity as one National Society. It operates through a network of nineteen branches with activities spread all across the country.
Overall Job Purpose
The physiotherapy Assistant will help patients with physical difficulties resulting from illness, injury, disability or ageing to improve their movement. The job holder is also responsible for devising and reviewing treatment programmes using manual therapy (such as massage), therapeutic exercise and electrotherapy. As well as treating patients and promote their health and wellbeing and provide advice on how to avoid injury and self-manage long-term conditions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Have as his/her main duty to provide physiotherapy service to disabled people or other patients in need of such services
- Plan the daily activities of his/her position
- Follow the patients’ appointment calendar as prepared in collaboration with his/her superior
- Ensure that appointments given to his/her patients are kept and deadline for deliveries are met
- Make sure that the quality of work provided by himself/herself is the best possible
- Ensure careful handling and proper maintenance of all machines and equipment being used by the physiotherapy Assistant in connection to the job as Physiotherapy Assistant
- Maintain close and positive collaboration with as other departments
- Give a hand to his/her superior any time a technical report needs to written
- Ensure quality of work provided is in the best way
- Prepare monthly statistics /report from the activities done give to the head of physiotherapy department
- Care, proper handling of the materials used for physiotherapy treatment
- Contributes to physical therapist’s effectiveness by identifying patient care issues; providing information and commentary;
- Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying therapy histories.
- Assesses abnormal conditions by reviewing physical therapist’s interpretations of patient evaluations and test results.
- Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
- Performs therapeutic procedures by administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily-living activities; and in using supportive devices,
- Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information; promoting wellness and health maintenance.
- Assist in developing and implementing patient management plans.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Assist in maintaining production objectives by noting current treatment trends; monitoring actual physical therapy services rendered to production objectives.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Help patients who have a range of conditions, including neurological, neuromuscular skeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory, sometimes over a period of weeks;
- Diagnose, assess and treat their physical problem/condition;
- develop and review treatment programmes that encourage exercise and movement by the use of a range of techniques;
- Review and evaluate patient through tests, movements, and conversation.
- Establish patient goals and benchmarks.
- Assist and demonstrate proper stretches, techniques, exercise moves, and equipment uses
- Educate patient family members, caretakers, or close friends on the patient’s treatment plan
- involve parents and careers in the treatment, review and rehabilitation of patients;
- Educate patients and their careers about how to prevent and/or improve conditions;
- write patient case notes and reports and collect statistics;
- Keep up to date with new techniques and technologies available for treating patients;
- Provide and maintain schedule exercises and therapies for the patient.
- Document patient medical progress and treatment; record notes to update medical conditions
- Perform other technical duties as instructed by the supervisor
Reporting
- Collect and maintain day to day data statistics and report to head of physiotherapy department.
- By every 1st every month prepare a report with activities of the last month and all available statistics, this report will go to the head of physiotherapy department
- Report to the head of physiotherapy any problem about equipment machines, if there is need to repair or replace.

Educational Qualifications & Professional Training:
- Secondary school graduate (Health related education will be an added value).
- Should have relevant experience and short course at least having one year short course ( being SRCS volunteer is an added value)
- Basic computer skills (Word, excel, power point)
- Good communication skills in Somali & English language
