Location: Baidoa and Dhobley
Duration: 4 Months
Reports to: Program Coordinator
Vacant position: 2 positions.
Background Information
The collapse of the Somalia government in 1991 dragged Somalia into a miserable state characterized by chronic insecurity, massive displacement and lack of adequate access to basic human needs such as food, water and shelter. Amid this horrific state young Somali nationals established Wamo Relief and Rehabilitation Services WRRS in the year 2002 with the aim of contributing to the relief of human suffering in the country.
WRRS is a non Profit, non- partisan organization based in Somalia. The organization is legally registered and operating in the south central Somalia and Punt land.
We aim to strengthen the capacity of the local communities in Somalia and Kenya so that they may share and contribute to the educational, economic, and social well-being of their life through provision of relief supplies, emergency livelihoods and social support and capacity building interventions which are integrated in participatory community-based peace building and human rights-based approaches towards sustainable peace, reconstruction and development of Somalia.
Task and deliverables of a Program Assistants
- In liaison with the Program Coordinator and Program Team, plan the project activities.
- Work with the Program coordinator and M&E Officer on project data collection and report writing.
- With an authentic storytelling lens, collect stories of change, case studies on project impacts, photo stories and more to share with Program coordinator and Communications team for external use.
- Regularly update and ensure the project activities in each camp are completed within the planned timeframe.
- Notify the Program coordinator any challenges in the course of the project implementation.
- Support WRRS technical program teams on the use of any communication or visibility materials.
- Using WRRS standard templates compile mission, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly reports and contribute the project quarterly reports and activities updates
- Liase with the local authorities on project activities , objectives , deliverables and ensuring Accountability to the affected persons
Skills and Qualifications
- At least Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science or other related field;
- One (1) year of relevant NGO experience is ideal;
- Previous communications experience is ideal;
- Ability to work independently and under pressure;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish working relations with target communities and project team
