KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Contribute to the design and implementation of the WFP Somalia integrated strategy on climate smart food systems (SO3) in close collaboration with the Livelihoods and Resilience team, Area Offices, Field Offices and other teams

2. Contribute to the development of appropriate and diversified food systems projects, plans and processes that meet the varied needs of women, men, youth across urban and rural areas, in alignment with the SO3 strategy and wider programme policies and guidelines

3. Provide technical expertise on WFP’s agriculture and post-harvest loss reduction initiatives (on cereals and fresh produce), including market linkages and access to markets

4. Provide overall programme/project coordination and management for WFP’s on-going food systems projects, specifically the Supporting Resilient Smallholder Farming Systems project. This includes coordination with area offices, building capacity of implementing partners, and being the programme/project focal person with WFP business units (procurement, finance), communications and other relevant WFP units

5. Develop and refine Training of Trainer curricula and farmer manuals for the rural Somali context on agriculture management, production of cash crops and cereals, and stages of post-harvest loss reduction and access to markets, using both demonstrative and classroom-based teaching methods

6. Develop and implement food safety standards and quality testing at cooperative sites, while building government capacity and supporting national regulatory frameworks

7. Train and build the capacity of WFP, partner, and government staff on the fundamentals of production, post-harvest loss prevention, market information systems, the agriculture value chain, pricing, sales, and marketing

8. Review existing market information systems, map regional and local market outlets, and identify opportunities for linkages along the value chains

9. Review operational research around post-harvest loss prevention methodologies and equipment for both dry cereals and fresh produce, including access to finance, credit and subsidies

10. Support the development of an agro-dealer network to foster a local supply and production of PHL equipment

11. Draft timely analytical and critical reports, for internal or external use

12. Support processes for Accountability to Affected Populations, including provision of information, consultation and complaints and feedback related to food systems programmes and activities.

13. Contribute to the development of the SO3 learning agenda, ensuring lessons are generated, success stories highlighted, and outcomes and impacts documented

14. Perform other related duties as required.
