Job Description:

Project Assistant- Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) – Hygiene Promoter

The Role:

The Project Assistant will be responsible for the continuous promotion of hygiene and sanitation standards. This is through campaigns, meetings and community mobilization by the Education & Protection department. S/he will be working under the leadership of the Project Manager- Education & Protection.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure the establishment of an active WASH students clubs and trained CHAST Methodology in schools.
• Ensure the hygiene promotion campaigns are conducted among the targeted student members in schools within the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and villages.
• Work closely with education and protection team in conducting periodic assessments and baseline in the project target schools
• Supervise and monitor hygiene activities through follow up on schools latrines to be used properly and kept clean by the students.
• Compilation of weekly, monthly and quarterly reports including collection of stories of change.

Essential:

• Degree in Community Development, Public Health or any other related field.
• Solid experience in community mobilization and training.
• Possess skills in Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), Child Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (CHAST) and/ or Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Methodology (PHAST) tools.
• 2 years of experience in project implementation preferably in community development, health or WASH projects.
• Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills.
• Knowledge of MS office; Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Working Environment:

The position is field-based in Burao, Somaliland.
