Job Description

Post Title: Project Coordinator

Duty station: Hargeisa, Somaliland

Duration: 12 months (with the possibility of extension)

Closing Date: 25th May, 2022

SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland is starting a Youth Program funded by Danida. The project is to contribute to the realization of a better society where young people are self-reliant and depend on their own powers, resources and abilities to meet their needs and manage their own affairs. The project also aspires to make young people resilient to adversities/challenges in life and capable to withstand and recover quickly from difficult conditions.

On this note, SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland seeks to recruit a project Coordinator who will be responsible for the overall management of the project and will coordinate the project activities. He/she will also lead the project staff.

Key responsibilities:

Lead the Planning of the project.

• Coordinate the baseline assessment and analysis of the situation of children and youth in Alternative Care within the targeted communities and make a final recommendation regarding the need of communities to the Head of Programs.
• Carry out a stakeholder analysis, to identify key stakeholders within the selected community(s) who are interested in or affected by the planned project.
• Formulate an initial action plan based on the findings from the baseline assessment, followed by annual plans with concrete project activities based on the analysis findings.
• Identify local funding sources, partnership & networking with the project area
• Lead development of the project design, based on the findings of the baseline assessment and analysis, and in line with the organization’s policies, strategies and available resources.
• Ensure that the annual planning process is carried out and plans are updated, according to the policies and strategies of the organization.
• Support capacity building of project implementation partners to ensure the long-term sustainability of service delivery and ongoing development of the project in future.

Coordinate Implementation of FS project Activities

• Coordinate implementation of project activities, according to the objectives, actions and time frames outlined in the annual plan. In doing so, also ensure that the project operates in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
• Guide and support development of sustainable responses to the situation of children and youth in alternative care centres

Financial Management and Administration of the Project

• Lead and support timely implementation of approved project plans and budgets.
• Implementing financial and administrative procedures, in line with the organization’s policies/guidelines and in consultation with financial support staff.
• Ensuring all project expenditure/resource utilization is in line with the project plan and budget.

Project Team Capacity Building and Management

• Manage and support project staff.
• Plan orientation projects for new co-workers to ensure they have a good understanding of the organization and their role within it at project level under the guidance of HR team.
• Ensure effective performance management systems are implemented for all project co-workers, including job descriptions, regular review sessions and annual performance appraisals, in line with organization performance Management guideline.
• Ensure individual staff training and development needs are identified and that these are addressed through staff development measures, according to priorities and available resources.

Project Monitoring and Evaluation

• Ensure monitoring and evaluation systems are in place and functioning well, in line with the organization’s requirements at project.
• Provide direct supervisor with regular up-dates on project activities and results, including regular written reports, according to organizational requirements.
• Secure regular financial management reports, including budget vs. expenditure reports, as required for the effective management of project resources.

Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum University degree in Development Studies, Project Planning and Management or other closely related disciplines with additional training on Project Management /advocacy

• Minimum of 4-5 years relevant work experience as a project coordinator in the fields of community, family, youth and child development.
• Proven experience in advocacy

• Experience in project management, monitoring and evaluation

• Excellent written and verbal communication.

• Good knowledge of children’s rights and youth development

• Awareness and understanding of social development issues, such as the local and national OVC situation, youth, gender, education, health
• Good understanding and interpretation of the SDGs

• Basic business and financial management skills

• Able to work independently, also in a diverse group, using initiative and keeping commitments

• Excellent computer skills (Windows, Word & Excel)
• Good reporting skills
