SOS Children’s Villages is a global federation of 136 national SOS Children’s Villages associations, working in more than 2000 programme locations worldwide. We work together with a single vision: every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect and security.

Uniquely, we provide long-term, family-like care for children who have lost parental care (alternative care service), and we work with vulnerable families and communities to help strengthen them and prevent child abandonment (family strengthening service, FS). SOS alternative care is usually organized in the form of a cluster of SOS families, where each SOS parent cares for small group of children.

SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland is a part of SOS Children’s Villages, the umbrella organization to which all SOS Children’s Villages including SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland is affiliated. SOS Somaliland is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that is not for profit, non-sectarian and non-partisan and which has been in existence since 1999.

SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland shares vision with SOS Children’s Villages and beliefs that every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect and security. To realize this, SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland builds families for children in need, help them shape their own futures and share in the development of their communities.

SOS Children’s Villages is committed to the welfare of children who lost parental care or at risk of losing parental care – often ensuring that children grow up in a loving family environment, and to strengthening families and communities as a preventive measure in the fight against child abandonment and social neglect, and upholds child protection policy as part of their commitment to the protection of children and youth from abuse.

SOS Children’s Villages was established in Somaliland in 1999 and it started first operations in Sahil region. Currently, SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland implements programs ranging from child care and protection, families strengthening, youth empowerment participation, advocacy and emergency relief interventions.

SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland seeks to fill the following position which will be based in Hargeisa. We seek to recruit a Project Officer to fulfill the project management tasks are implemented and adhered to in according to the organizational standards.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support in the design, plan and implement project activities that are related to youth empowerment in line with SOS Children’s Villages program quality principles and standards, donor requirements, and good practices.
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual, quarterly and monthly action plans and reports, plan assessments, monitoring, review and evaluation activities.
  • Coach project target youth to define their further soft skill training needs, employment prospects and work with the youth as individuals, and sometimes as groups, to assist them in making future decisions.
  • Ensure that the project activities are consistent with plans and budget lines of the project.
  • Develop a capacity building strategy aimed at strengthening the coping capacities of the target youth group.
  • Conduct regular visits to project sites to monitor the implementation of activities, gather feedback from beneficiaries and submit detailed report about the activities and findings
  • Prepare and compile activity reports on weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually and yearly and share with Project Coordinator.
  • Prepare and contribute to the documentation of good practices– case studies, human interest stories, successful project approaches and lessons learnt
  • Compile project implementation data from project areas on a monthly basis and submit it to the Project Coordinator and the M$E Officer.
  • Work in close collaboration with other projects including FSP, Next Economy, and Emergency on ensuring field level integration and synergy for resiliency gains.
  • Ensure reporting of all concerns regarding actual or potential safeguarding issues, mistreatment or any other violation of the Child Protection Policy according to our reporting and responding system.
  • Promotes SOS CV child protection policy through raising awareness to all our beneficiaries and partners.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • Minimum University degree in Development Studies, Project Planning and Management or other closely related disciplines with additional training on Project Management
  • At least 2 years’ experience in project implementation ideally in youth empowerment and peace building projects.
  • Knowledge, understanding and ability to develop and apply Youth Participation Strategies and Initiatives.
  • A team player skilled in interpersonal relations and accustomed to working in difficult environmental conditions with less supervision.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and good skills in using Microsoft Project Planning.
