We are currently seeking a passionate and qualified Protection Officer to join our team and play a pivotal role in implementing and supporting protection integration within nutrition-focused initiatives. You will collaborate with our Program team, technical staff, operations team, and community-based structures to ensure the delivery of high-quality protection services.

General Requirements

  • Relationship Builder: Strong ability to establish trust and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, including community leaders, local authorities, donors, and partner organizations.

  • Organizational Skills: Excellent time management skills, capable of handling multiple priorities under pressure.

  • Protection Knowledge: Good understanding of protection principles, GBV prevention, child protection, and humanitarian standards.

  • Community Engagement: Skills in awareness-raising and protection advocacy.

  • Problem Solver: Provide psychosocial first aid and appropriate referrals in dynamic contexts.

  • Data Proficiency: Ability to collect, analyze, and present protection data and trends.

  • Commitment: Adherence to MUDRO’s values, safeguarding principles, and humanitarian code of conduct.

Key Responsibilities

1. Protection Program Implementation

  • Identify, register, and follow up on protection cases following MUDRO’s case management procedures.

  • Provide psychosocial first aid and appropriate referrals to specialized services.

  • Collaboration with mental health professionals or health partners

  • Organize and facilitate awareness sessions on protection, GBV, and child rights.

  • Support community-based protection committees in their roles and activities.

  • Monitor protection risks and trends, advising on program adjustments.

  • Coordinate with other sectors to ensure integrated protection programming.

2. Data Collection and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and confidential case files and records.

  • Prepare timely protection reports, including incident trends and risk mapping.

  • Contribute to assessments, surveys, and other data collection activities.

  • Proficiency in digital data collection tools like Kobo collect is mandatory.

3. Coordination & Representation

  • Participate in protection cluster and relevant coordination meetings.

  • Liaise with local authorities, community leaders, and service providers.

  • Represent MUDRO in external forums as required.

4. Compliance & Safeguarding

  • Ensure all activities comply with MUDRO’s safeguarding and PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) policies.

  • Promote the rights and dignity of affected populations at all times.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Law, Development Studies, or other relevant fields.

  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in humanitarian protection, GBV, or child protection programming.

  • Case Management: Experience in case management, community engagement, and awareness-raising.

  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills in Somali and English (Arabic is a plus).

  • Local Knowledge: Familiarity with the local context and willingness to travel to field locations.
