Lifeline Gedo (LLG) is national non-governmental humanitarian organization dedicated towards ensuring that local communities in Somalia are resilient and able to cope with perennial shocks that threaten their livelihoods year in year out. LLG engages in long-term development work, responds to emergency situations, and seeks to address the root causes of poverty.

Overall Supervision By Health and Nutrition Coordinator.
Remuneration Negotiable
Managerial Responsibility None.
Duration 12 months with possibility of extension.
Directly Reporting Staff : CHW /TBAs
For increasing access to Health and Nutrition, Lifeline Gedo works in urban and remote villages in Gedo region through the provision of health and Nutrition services that include treatment of SAM, MAM, essential maternal and child health services in Partnership with ACF funded by GFFO
Job Summary: 


In collaboration with the Clinical Officer the Qualified nurse will ensure quality EPHs services are provided to beneficiaries at the assigned locations in Elwak, Somalia district. The successful candidate will be expected to work full time on every week, spending the whole day at facility, reviewing cases brought forward by the CHWs. The role is mainly to ensure   provision of essential primary health care services to beneficiaries, adhering to ethics of clinical practice, nursing care, MoH/WHO Somali Treatment Guidelines. (STGs) 

He will  work with the CHW and the community at the respective  villages , mentoring them and providing them with On Job training to ensure there is consistent high quality  preventive and curative care for mothers, children and adults.

He will lead the community to prioritize their health needs and develop joint community action plans that will be tracked over time.

He  will be responsible for day to day implementation of Integrated Community case management (ICCM) at the Health posts, facilitating referrals and follow up of complicated cases, Working closely with the CHWs, VHCs, TBAs empowering them to fully provide ICCM services within their respective villages as well as providing health education sessions to promote uptake of positive health seeking behaviors.

Main Duties & 



ü  Take a lead role in providing clinical consultation, treatment, and referral and follow up of cases in line with established norms and standards. 

ü  Oversee  medical consultation services at the site ensuring appropriate case diagnosis and management in an ethically sound manner

ü  Ensure high quality ICCM care is provided to beneficiaries in line with the standard protocols and informing the relevant patients about their presenting conditions

ü  Mentor and support the Auxiliaries, Vaccinators, Midwife, CHWs and the VHCs to provide ICCM case management services at the site, ensuring   consistent availability of essential supplies at the health posts

ü  Ensure appropriate patient management procedures; clerking of patients, Vital signs documentation and case management using the standard clinical practices, MoH/WHO  case management protocols for Somalia

ü  Oversee and review cases seen at the site ,providing close follow up to beneficiaries treated ,including facilitation on nutrition treatment ,case referrals and follow up  of  the malnourished  beneficiaries

ü  Responsible for documentation of observations, changes in a patient’s condition, medical treatment given; reports daily activities, admissions, defaulters, referrals and deaths

ü  Updating the relevant reporting tools including registers , facility HMIS tools , the CSR ,weekly updates and drug consumption reports

ü  Participate actively in monitoring and reporting, ensuring the documentation and transfer of information as necessary

ü  Maintain   and promote a culture of hygiene and sanitation awareness and practices at the facilities, ensuring appropriate waste management& infection prevention practices.

ü  Facilitate referrals for continued health and nutrition care between the various programs.

ü  Appropriately dispense to and educate clients and the CHWs on the  correct use of medications

ü  Participate in empowering the CHWS and the Village Health Committees to make health, nutrition and general community wellness   oriented action plans, mobilize resources to fulfil the plans prioritized.

ü  Keep adequate register and management of all assets, medical supplies, material and equipment and ensure replenishment when necessary.

ü  Oversee health education sessions at the facilities, support the CHWs/TBAs and mentor mothers in health promotion including increased uptake of  EPI services, hygiene and IYCF promotion

ü  Supervise, appraise and Identify training needs of the  CHWs and the VHC

ü  Participate in weekly / monthly coordination meetings; attend staff meetings, in-service training and continuing education programs as required.

ü  Perform any other duties as assigned by your supervisor

Qualifications Essential 


All applicants should be the resident of Elwak Somalia. 

ü  Bachelor of Science in Nursing with at least 3 years working experience. Diploma in Nursing with 3+ years’ experience in a similar setting may be considered

ü  Excellent knowledge on Public Health and Nutrition programs

ü  Previous MCH/OTP/ TSFP working experience in Somalia in a similar set up an added advantage

ü  Good organizational and communication skills

ü  Good command of English and Somali, both written and spoken.

ü  Good computer skills (Microsoft Office)

ü  Strong management, networking and interpersonal skills

ü  Problem solving skills and conflict resolution skills
