Background

Volunteers for Relief and Development is a registered local organizations working humanitarian initiatives to respond to vulnerable communities by protracted droughts and conflicts in Somalia. The main objective of its establishment is reaching the unprivileged communities severing the natural calamities, shocks and manmade disaster

SPECIFIC ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 The ANC care provider will undertake a number of duties and responsibilities, including:

• Provide effective antenatal care
• Monitor the progress of pregnancy and fetus development.
• Evaluate the physical, psychological and sociological effects of pregnancy on the woman.
• Discuss the initial assessment visit, define its objectives and consider the significance of the different components of the woman’s history taken by the midwife.
• Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
• Maintain and submit nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies and placing orders for drugs and supplies.
• Describe the physical examination and the psychological support of the woman at the initial assessment and the subsequent visits.
• Discover early pregnancy complications.
• Any other duties as directed by the supervisor or the Program/Medical doctor.

Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Nursing from a recognized university 
• Ready to work in difficult environmental conditions.
• Experience in maternal and child health or equivalent qualifications
• Minimum of three years of relevant experience in a health program set up.
• Experience working with a non-profit humanitarian organization preferred.
• Flexibility at work.

Required competence 

• A mature person of high professional discipline and moral integrity.
• Ability to English proficiency.
• Previous experience within a humanitarian aid organization, in particular working in primary health care programs and conducting nursing.
• Strong counselling skills.
• Good organizational skills.
• Competent to work under stress as the situation may dictate. Ability to work with displaced communities with diverse cultural and ethnic background.

Child Protection and safeguarding

The responsibilities of this position include regular contact with children, and young people. Volunteers for Relief and Development organization is responsible for protecting and safeguarding the dignity of children, women, and all vulnerable individuals, as well as raising awareness.
