Role overview

Himilo organization for development (HOD) is non-profit making, non-sectarian, humanitarian relief and development organization that was established and registered in 2003 as a local non-governmental organization (LNGO) in Somalia. HOD has been operating in Somalia since 2003. Its top priority is to create an environment that is conductive to sustainable development by helping communities to secure peace, sustainable development and attain self-reliance.

Himilo Organization for Development is seeking an experienced, innovative and ambitious fundraiser to help us achieve in the organization strategy of expanding its services. With full backing and commitment from the Board and Senior Management Team, you will put in place and deliver on an integrated strategy for fund raising and networking extensively among donors, foundations and wealth philanthropic. You will be a self-starter, with the drive, vision and networking ability to build new partners from scratch. You will also develop vibrant and dynamic advocacy and fundraising tools, while building the capacity of the organization key staff on communication and resource mobilizations.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to HOD’s overall strategic plan. Develop and implement a comprehensive, innovative and integrated fundraising plan with a focus on major giving, institutional donors, trusts and foundations
• Determine appropriate strategies for cultivation and solicitation with particular emphasis on partnership with new donors and Build clear messaging and narratives that cut across and unify various dimensions of HOD’s work for potential donors and supporters.
• Ensure that HOD is strategic, coherent, and compelling in its engagement of supporters, partners, and other key audiences and Put in place systems to maintain donor and corporate partner communication and engagement, through events, meetings, teleconferences, reports, etc. Also, require extensive, pro-active networking of contacts. Strategically leverage the time of the CEO and Board to meet aggressive fundraising targets; support and develop the capacity of the Board to achieve development goals
• Oversee the preparation of donor reports in conjunction with the finance team.
• Ensure that donor criteria and requirements are well understood, documented, communicated and met.

   Education and other essential skills requirements

• Education: Bachelor degree in communication, international relation/ international development studies, with minimum of 7 years working experience preferably in INGOs
• At least 7 years’ senior level experience in a non-profit including
• Experience working effectively and respectfully with members of the senior leadership team, as well as board members and other high-level volunteers.
• Exceptional networker with proven ability to identify and cultivate prospects through contact networking.
• Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communications skills with the ability to make dynamic group presentations

Desirable knowledge and experience

• Master’s degree level or equivalent professional standard
• High level of computer skills. Experience with MS word and MS excel
