JOB TITLE: Resident Doctor 1 position (Somalia National Only)

DEPARTMENT: Program BASE LOCATION: Mogadishu with frequent travel to other IR field offices

Closing Date: 24th July 2021	CONTRACT LENGTH: 12 Months
REPORT TO:  Area Manager.	LINE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

JOB SUMMARY

The Resident Doctor will be responsible for the provision of health services to expatriate staff in Mogadishu and will also take part in the delivery of health service to patients in Islamic Relief supported health facilities in Mogadishu.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The RD will provide quality health services to expatriate staff in Mogadishu with the following roles.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Provide health service to expatriate staff:

Undertake day-to-day health duties and periodic medical support to the IRW expatriate staff based across Somalia in providing medical consultations support and medical evacuation

Providing psychosocial support, medical support, emotional support, or other individual medical care to expatriate staff and other co- workers.

Maintain emergency medical supplies and equipment to be used in case of emergency attention in the medical designated room in the guesthouse.

Manage day-to-day medical support operations by ensuring the availability of supplies and proper functioning of medical equipment in the guesthouse.

Refers expatriate staff to outside specialists as necessary and follows-up with outside specialists.

Verify all medical test reports and advise expatriate staff members on treatment.

Provides health education and health promotions, with special emphasis to the prophylaxis of the relevant disease’s outbreaks.

The Resident Doctor will be responsible for the provision of medical services to expatriate staff in Mogadishu and will be on call any time needed, He/she will also support all medical related issues across IRS operation area.

Travel to any field offices across Somalia at any time to support any staffs that requires special attention.

Give technical, professional medical advices in relation to all health matters that are affecting the Islamic relief employees specially on any health emerging issues

Take charge and advice the managements on any emerging health issues such as Covid-19 protocols and give recommendations to the managements on the way forward.

Patient care in the health facilities:

Treating all patients with dignity, respect and care.

Provision of evidence-based and quality clinical care of individual patients in all domains of medical practice including; patient interview; Clinical examination; identification of clinical problems and treatments.

Provide direct support and care for vulnerable women, girls and boys and GBV survivor, including basic information counselling and case management.

Works with other health staff to provide overall care at the hospital including pediatric, and surgical care.

Manage complicated cases.

Writing of referral letters and Clinical reports.

Takes ownership of all responsibilities of the health at the country office and commitments as per the medical ethics

Operates in compliance with organizational regulations and rules.

Takes personal responsibility for his/her own shortcomings and those of the work unit, where applicable

Ability to work effectively in high-pressure, rapidly changing environments and other emerging medical issues.

 

SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS

Knowledge of relevant disease control initiatives

Ability to make new and useful ideas

Ability to take patient care and assess patient satisfaction

Comprehensive knowledge of infection control and personal safety measures

QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced University Degree in Medicine and surgery from any recognized university

Advanced diploma/diploma in registered clinical officers (RCO) from any recognized medical institution

Advanced specialization in any medical field is added advantage such as anesthetist

A minimum of two years of progressively clinical experience.

Fluency in English and Somali is required.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

At least 2-4 years of progressive experience and practice in general medicine.

Additional years of experience in Trauma, emergency care and Internal Medicine are highly desirable

Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) is expected.

Line of managements

None and but works closely with the health officer and health team.
