SCOPE OF WORK FOR LOCAL VIDEOGRAPHER FOR SOMALIA RESILIENCE PARTNERSHIP/ RESILIENCE LEARNING ACTIVITY IN BANADIR

Project/Program Title: Resilience Learning Activity – Somalia

 Program Overview/Background

The Resilience Learning Activity Somalia (RLA-S) is a USAID-funded collaborative platform that formed the Somali Resilience Partnership (SRP) as a secretariat and evidence-based entity that fosters collaboration and co-creation between implementing partners of USAID and other donors e.g., Foreign Commonwealth Development Organization (FCDO) and Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC).  The coordination between these donors is used to inform and leverage resilience and humanitarian activities by applying USAID’s collaboration, learning, and adapting (CLA) principles together, with an emphasis on providing opportunities at a granular level using sequencing, layering, and integration (SLI) approaches for implementation.

RLA’s Somalia-focused activities will be led by Mercy Corps under the platform of the Somalia resilience partnership forum. The Somalia context presents a unique set of challenges and opportunities. The prevailing aid architecture, which distinguishes between humanitarian and development funding, has not optimally incentivized, or facilitated CLA across actors and funding streams for sustained reductions in humanitarian needs. The global community has awoken to the reality that a new way of working is required; however, the “how” of individual and collective action that will deliver lasting impact in protracted complex crises like Somalia remains largely elusive. The Baidoa Resilience Partnership, launched in 2018 by USAID under Africa Lead, positioned USAID as a thought leader in this space, promoting resilience as a collective imperative in complex crises—one that transcends traditional funding, program, and sector silos. RLA will leverage this initial investment, driving clarity in concept and collaboration in learning for resilience within and across diverse actors, in the collective pursuit of a vision for Somalia of improved and enduring peace and well-being Facilitating demand-driven capacity-building opportunities is a top priority for the RLA program.

Purpose of Role/ Position

Resilience Learning Activity is seeking the services of a local professional Videographer to document RLA program activities in Mogadishu, Banadir region, Somalia.

The images will be used to illustrate program publications, and other online and institutional content. Photographs may also be used by the media and program partners upon request as a resource to portray SRP/RLA’s work.

The Videographer will follow photography guidelines in the development of his/her assignment, which will be provided and briefed by SRP/RLA Team Lead.

Duration – 3 days in  each  month  from January 2023- Dec  2023

Period:

2nd 3th and 4th January 2023

Objectives:

1. Capture and document SRP impact stories/
2. Document collaboration and synergy building in progress.
3. To showcase SRP important work at the field.
4. To share learnings from the field with other partners.
5. Promotion of CLA framework.

Deliverables/ Task

The Videographer will:

1. Travel to project locations in Banadir region as assigned and photograph project activities and beneficiaries.
2. RLA will identify the places to visit to capture various program concepts listed in the deliverables.
3. The Videographer is required to ask permission when photographing the people or situations described under the deliverables and in accordance with Mercy corps photography guidelines.
4. Write concise, well edited videos with captions for all selected images/videos.
5. Ensure dignity of subjects, particularly in the context of children and vulnerable groups, including elderly, and people living with disabilities.

Specific Deliverables/ Outputs

1. High resolution jpeg or raw files of photos (300 dpi at 2610 x 3900 pixels) photos related to SRP/RLA program in External Hard disk.
2. Each video should be edited for strong visual impact.
3. Each video should have its metadata with standard captions, copyrights, and other relevant information.
4. Standard caption information to be embedded in the images should include full names, name of location, age of subject and date.
5. All photos should have the following variations: horizontal and vertical photos of same subjects; dramatic angles; close-up, midrange, and wide-angle shots.

Ethical considerations:

1. To photograph children under 18 years old, parental, or tutorial consent must be sought.
2. The Videographer may be required to travel to remote, hard-to-reach areas to capture the required images/videos.
3. RLA will provide the Videographer with a consent form to be filled in these cases, following MC guidelines.
