Job Description

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Contribute to the design and implementation of the WFP Somalia integrated strategy on climate smart food systems (SO3) in collaboration with the Food Systems team, Area Offices, Field Offices and others

2. Contribute to the development and monitoring of appropriate and diversified livelihood projects, plans and processes that meet the varied needs of women, men, youth across urban and rural areas

3. Provide livelihood project management support to Area Offices and Field Offices with continuous follow-up and regular field travel to support programme implementation and monitoring

4. Support the development of livelihood project proposals, providing relevant feedback to Area Offices, presenting proposals to the Project Review Committee and following up with Area Offices on issues raised by the Committee

5. Respond to livelihoods-related enquiries from Area Offices and other units and draft responses to livelihoods-related enquiries from Regional Bureau, HQ, partners and donors

6. Review monthly distribution plans for livelihoods activities

7. Maintain an updated database of livelihood projects and status, electronic archives and paper files of related documents including all approved project proposals and signed Field Level Agreements and budgets

8. Facilitate technical training of WFP staff, partners, third-party monitors, CBOs and lead farmers

9. Participate in livelihood-related inter-agency groups when requested, e.g. joint DRM programme, UNSAS, food cluster; draft input for those groups when necessary

10. In collaboration with AOs, compile requests for tools and other NFIs for procurement

11. Provide technical inputs to monthly FFA technical group meetings as well as quarterly steering Committee meetings at the state and CO levels.

12. Review livelihood monthly progress reports

13. Support processes for Accountability to Affected Populations, including provision of information, consultation and complaints and feedback related to livelihoods programmes and activities.

14. Prepare livelihoods inputs to regular reporting and communication processes such as the Annual Country Report, monthly/quarterly Country Office reports, relevant briefing materials for missions and events

15. Prepare livelihoods inputs to learning and accountability processes such as evaluations, reviews and audits; generation of lessons learnt and success stories

16. Perform other duties as required

Skills and Qualifications

Education: Completion of secondary school education. Preferably supplemented by training in a relevant area such as natural resources management, agriculture, livestock management, rural livelihood, community development or engineering..

Experience: 6 years of work experience. Relevant experience is preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Solid knowledge of humanitarian work, standards, and principles
  • Very good understanding of livelihood and related interventions
  • Experience working in fragile context and or emergency settings
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and in writing
  • Solid analytical skills and capacity to synthesize complex information
  • Ability to plan and coordinate
  • Ability to work and deliver quality inputs under pressure
  • Experience of managing community projects, particularly water harvesting, natural resource management or capacity building

Language: English proficiency; Somali mother tongue.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Contract Duration: 1 year (Renewable)
