| Senior Protection Assistant (Temporary Appointment)
Organizational Setting and Work Relationships The Senior Protection Assistant provides quality, timely and effective protection support to persons of concern (PoC) and identifies opportunities to mainstream protection methodologies and safeguards in operational responses. S/he contributes to designing a comprehensive protection strategy and may liaise externally with local authorities and partners on protection issues as guided by the supervisor. The Senior Protection Assistant also ensures that PoC are involved in making decisions that affect them, whether in accessing their rights or in identifying appropriate solutions to their problems. To achieve this, the incumbent will need to build and maintain effective interfaces with communities of concern, local authorities and protection and assistance partners. All UNHCR staff members are accountable to perform their duties as reflected in their job description. They do so within their delegated authorities, in line with the regulatory framework of UNHCR which includes the UN Charter, UN Staff Regulations and Rules, UNHCR Policies and Administrative Instructions as well as relevant accountability frameworks. In addition, staff members are required to discharge their responsibilities in a manner consistent with the core, functional, cross-functional and managerial competencies and UNHCR’s core values of professionalism, integrity and respect for diversity. Duties Education & Professional Work Experience Years of Experience / Degree Level G5 – 2 years relevant experience with High School Diploma; or 1 year relevant work experience with Bachelor or equivalent or higher Field(s) of Education Certificates and/or Licenses Relevant Job Experience Functional Skills Language Requirements All UNHCR workforce members must individually and collectively, contribute towards a working environment where each person feels safe, and empowered to perform their duties. | The incumbent is expected to deal with refugee and asylum seekers on different thematic areas including registration and documentation, education and health, subsistence allowance and other multi-sectoral cash grant. Sh/he is to work closely with protection CB to ensure all the information is communicated to the refugee and asylum seeker community. Sh/He is to work with local authorities to ensure all new arrivals are registered in a timely manner. The incumbent is expected to prepare and administer the asylum seeker¿s file for ¿refugee Status Determination¿ interview and ensure the file is ready for eligibility officer and interview. Sh/he has to be familiarized with ProGress (UNHCR database) in order to enter all data and actions into ProGress. The incumbent is supposed to act as PSEA focal point and prompt PSEA in all activities of UNHCR and partners and other stockholders. Sh/he ¿ in coordination with program Unit- is in touch with partners who provide education, legal, GBV and CP services to PoCs. It is desirable that incumbent has BA/MA in Law, international Law, or social science and have knowledge on general protection and human/refugee rights. Having experience in protection in UNHCR or other UN agencies, national and international NGOs is highly desirable. Due to working environment and diversity of UNHCRs¿ PoCs which entails high workload, owing flexibility, adaptability and team work are essential. | |
