SBACO Profile

Somali Birth Attendants Cooperative Organization (SBACO) is a non-profit organization based in Somalia. It was founded in 1994 Hiran region by a team of healthcare workers and senior community development professionals who saw the need to take care of the escalating humanitarian needs in the country.

Currently, SBACO is involved in several humanitarian programs with focus on key sectors that includes Sexual and Reproductive health, Child Protection, Livelihood Food Security, Health and Nutrition, Women empowerment and gender mainstreaming, among others. We are currently involved in active projects that aim to address maternal mortality and GBV harmful practices in humanitarian setting. We are in partnership with UN Agencies, INGOs, Government institutions, Local Community Networks, Consortiums and community volunteers in these projects and seek the services of qualified professionals.

Job Description

The Social Mobilization Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the campaign on awareness on gender-based violence, options for referral pathways and availability of GBV one stop center services and women and girls’ safe spaces in the local community. The Social Mobilization Supervisor will oversee the activities of Social Mobilizers and provide technical support to achieve project outcomes.

Key responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the Social Mobilization Supervisor will include the following.

1: Provide technical support to the GBV awareness program and participate and supervises activities in the field.

  • Make sure that the protocols are respected;
  • Involve in the situation analysis, strategy and program definition.
  • Identify staff training needs and report to the PM.
  • Plan, monitor and supervise community outreach activities.
  • Ensure the respect of the protocol in the out-reach activities
  • Organize weekly meetings with the social mobilization team
  • Participate in the analysis and reorientation of the project
  • Participate in meetings organized by the department;
  • Analyse and build on past experience in order to share the lessons learnt;
  • Propose new project directions.
  • Liaise with the authorities/partners
  • Communicate the programme’s activities to the authorities/partners
  • Represent SBACO in meeting with authorities/partners when needed
  • Close follow up of the overall situation and interpretation of different indicators such as direct follow up of health status, outbreaks, general GBV awareness status and IDPs flow;
  • Propose timely responses in case of new GBV awareness emergency
  • Ensure implementation of community outreach activities in line with national and/or global recommendations

Recording and Reporting activities

  • Follow clearly appropriate protocols and guidelines on recording and reporting.
  • Ensure that data collected are complete, reliable, relevant, timely and valid.
  • Ensure that weekly/ monthly data compilation and reporting of activities for internal and external consumptions are submitted to PM in a timely manner
  • Evaluate the relevance and appropriateness of the intervention in view of the evolution of the context and needs

Qualification of candidate

Diploma in social work, community health, humanities, or related field

At least one year experience working in community settings in a development and/or humanitarian context Experience in managing a team.

Strong communication skills

Planning, monitoring and evaluation skills Good analytical capacity.

Knowledge of informatics : Word, Excel

Fluency in English, including writing clear and concise reports.

Personal attributes

An outgoing personality

Good interpersonal and group communication skills Able to work as part of a team.

Willingness to work in a hardship area. Fluency in Somali

Additional details

Position holder will be reporting to the Program Manager

Duty Station: Beletweyne, Somalia,

Travel to the field is expected on a regular basis

The position is a six (6) months contract
