Background

In response to the critical care needs in Sanaag, the DoTERRA Healing Hands Foundation and Asli-Maydi Jibril Foundation are establishing the Sanaag Speciality Hospital, a non-profit organisation located in Erigavo City, Somaliland. The first phase of the hospital development will be a 45 bed facility made up of A&E, OPD, Diagnostics, Maternal (including delivery) and a Paediatric Health offering.  The hospital is currently fully operational with a well-equipped laboratory, pharmacy and operating theatre.

Job Description: Specialist Obstetrician Gynaecologist / Family Health Doctor with interests in Obstetrics and Gynaecology   

Job Description:

The main responsibilities of the Doctor Family Health will be and not limited to testing, diagnosing, treating, and monitoring diseases and issues related to women’s health, and providing medical counsel and support to women during pregnancy and childbirth.

To be successful in this role, you should be a highly skilled specialist who is passionate about women’s healthcare. Top candidates will also be good communicators and educators.

You will also be responsible as the Head of Department (HOD) for daily general Doctors Hospital duties, Assess Patients’ Conditions, ordering diagnostic tests and interpreting the results. Create Treatment Plan, prescribe medication, arrange follow-up visits as deemed necessary to restore patient health, make referrals for patients that are in need of specialized care. Conduct routine physical exams of ill or injured patients, vitals, reviewing patient history, discussing any health concerns of the patient and instructing patients on correct health programs.

Reporting: Directly to the General Manager.

Primary responsibilities for the position include:

  • Specialist/Family Medicine Doctor qualified and experienced in obstetrics and gynaecology, performing a wide range of tests, including pap smears, pelvic, and breast exams, diagnosing and prescribing treatments for disorders and diseases.
  • Conducting routine check-ups on patients, monitoring and treating expectant mothers during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum.
  • Updated knowledge and excellent clinical skills with recognised ability to perform C-sections competently and ability to do minor surgical procedures without supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend and advise on issues of capacity building, staffing, discipline, training, departmental operations, quality assuarance, service delivery and patient care in Head of Department meetings chaired by the General Manager along with the other Clinical Heads of Department.
  • Work with the primary healthcare team to provide patients with primary medical care services within the standard of care for Internal Medicine and Family care patients.
  • Order laboratory and radiology tests and refer patients to specialists when appropriate.
  • Analyze reports, test results, medical records and examinations to diagnose condition of patients and propose treatment options.
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens to treat identified and documented medical conditions.
  • Discuss potential side effects of medication/treatment with patients and ensure that all allergy information is up-to-date before prescribing medication/treatment.
  • Provide advice to patients for lifestyle and diet changes that may improve their health or help to treat the health issue they are experiencing.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all Governmental and state health information privacy laws.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Master of Obstetrics and Gynaecology/Family Medicine and at least 3 years of experience in a Family Medical Doctor role outside of their residency.
  • Experience in providing family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, primary care and diagnostic services in a clinical setting, prescribing appropriate medications, treatments and health regimens to treat patient health issues.
  • Board certification in primary care or related field from said residency.
  • Experience in collaborating with specialists to explore patient health conditions and diagnose health issues, working in a team of healthcare professionals and collaborating with them to ensure positive, effective patient experiences within organization.
  • Experience in training residents, medical students, and other health care professionals.
  • Successful completion of residency and at an accredited healthcare institution.
  • Current Medical Practitioner License
  • Excellent communication and management skills.
  • Previous experience in similar position – added advantage.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Preference/desire to work in Erigavo
