Temporary Child Protection Officer – Mogadishu, Somalia
Job Description
SOS Children’s Villages invites applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates who fulfill the eligibility criterion for the below position.
Position title : Temporary Child Protection Officer
Reporting to : Project Coordinator
Location : Mogadishu
Supervisees : Social workers
Position Summary:
The job holder will facilitate the provision and supervision of the child protection in emergency interventions including supervision of the Child Friendly space (CFS), Case Management, capacity building and Awareness campaigns. While on the hand, the community engagement approach on CP will be the first role to be dealt by the job holder to maximize the uptake of the CP messaging in the community, during which, child protection case management, monitoring and reporting will be realized with the help of the coordination meetings, information sharing and networking of partners responding to child protection issues in the respective district/towns or locations.
Main Purpose:
To assist, the Project Coordinator, in the accomplishment of the child protection activities in the project and other related protection activities within the SOS CV which include: training and follow up on all matters of child protection in his/her respective operational area.
Priority Task and Responsibilities:
- Support and facilitate comprehensive case management for SOS Somalia.
- Knowledge of the case management tools and approaches are pre-requisite requirement fort the role.
- Train CFS Animators and staff working in the Child Friendly Spaces in Mogadishu and Hudur
- Facilitate and implement community trainings and awareness sessions.
- Support youth to carry out child protection awareness campaigns
- Periodic district level CP campaign involving all stakeholders
- Engage primary schools on child protection issues
- Guide and support with reporting, referral of child protection incidents
- Supervise and monitor the activities implemented in the SOS Child Friendly Spaces at the static centers.
- Produce project reports on monthly and quarterly basis
- Produce activity reports e.g. training reports
- Document and share promising child protection practices
- Monitor protection issues for boys and girls and share to the concerned bodies
- Represent SOS CV in district coordination meetings in the child protection cluster/working group
- Plan joint activities/events whenever possible to maximize integration and collaboration of other partners
Skills and Qualifications
- A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Social Work and Social Administration (SWSA)/Social Sciences, sociology , development Studies, Education is an added advantage.
- Knowledge child protection in emergencies and early childhood practices are critical functionalities of the role.
- Technical Training qualifications in child Protection in emergencies are added advantage for this role
- 3 years of experience or more in related job of protection is desirable

Personal Qualities & Attributes:
- Good English languages.
- Keen interest and enthusiasm in working for and with children
- Ability to work with and engage with parents
- Willingness to learn and collaborate with other stakeholders (parents, IDPs, children, child protection committees, other organizations and local government
- Comply with SOS Children’s Villages-Somalia child protection policy and code of conduct as well as the inter agency standards
- Willingness to move and monitor activities in the different CFS in the static centers in the respective districts/towns
