Organisation Overview
The Pharo Foundation (the “Foundation”) is a privately funded entrepreneurial organisation that runs philanthropic programmes as well as for-profit Pharo Ventures. The vision of the Foundation is an economically vibrant and inclusive Africa. Established in 2011 as a UK – based non-profit, the Foundation has since made a strategic shift to directly design and implement its own programmes to ensure greater engagement with communities, better results and increased accountability. The Foundation has carried out numerous projects in East Africa, with a focus on Ethiopia, Somaliland and Rwanda. The key themes for the philanthropic side of the Foundation are education, health, water and agriculture. At the end of 2019, the Foundation started its Pharo Ventures franchise to prioritise sectors where the Foundation believes a real impact can be made by establishing self- sustaining businesses that focus on job creation.
Headquartered in London, the Foundation has an operational Head Office in Nairobi, Kenya with country offices in Ethiopia (Addis Ababa and Assosa), Somaliland (Hargeisa) and Rwanda (Kigali) with further expansion plans in East Africa.
Objective
The overall objective of the child protection and safeguarding training is to train all Pharo schools management staff on the key facets and importance of safeguarding in regard to children. The Foundation is involved in the running of multiple schools; therefore, this training must address the safety of highly vulnerable students and cover all aspects of child protection and safeguarding, in order to prevent intentional or non-intentional harm that could occur in delivery of education programs. The Foundation is particularly focused on understanding and addressing the relationship between authority figures and school children.
Scope
- The duration of the consultancy is three (3) months to deliver that outlined in the expected deliverables below.
- The location of the training is Hargeisa & Sheikh Somaliland.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Conduct a review of current schools’ child protection and safeguarding, and related policies, and advise the Foundation on areas of improvement.
To deliver clear, easy to understand training sessions on safeguarding.
Produce and deliver a training program based on the objectives laid out.
To cover all necessary aspects of child protection and safeguarding regarding highly vulnerable minors.
Produce child protection and safeguarding manual for the workplace.
Expected Deliverables
Develop a child protection and safeguarding manual for staff to implement. Plan and produce the training within the given timeframe.
Prepare training material and manual in English and Somali. Conduct training for office and school employees.
Train all school management staff on child protection and safeguarding and how to do a proper
investigation of highly vulnerable children.
Produce a written report, containing objectives, schedule, and methodology, training points,
participant evaluation and conclusion
Develop a final report outlining recommendations on staff training frequency, refresher training and further capacity development that may be needed based on observations.
Requirements
Previous experience in delivering child protection and safeguarding training to organizations. Experience working in the community, and working in partnership with local organizations to affect and implement change.
Excellent grasp of the best current practices in terms of safeguarding.
Ability to write succinct, high-quality training manuals in excellent English.
Management of Consultant
The consultant will work under the supervision of the Human Resource Manager
