Background

Martisoor (meaning a great hospitality in Somali Language) is a new four-star hotel recently built in Garowe, the capital city of the Puntland State of Somalia.

Martisoor Hotel is all set to engage its customers as one of the finest and exciting hospitality experiences in Somalia. Martisoor Hotel is suited for business travelers in Garowe, as it is situated on a unique location (State House Road) (Jidka Wasaaradaha) which links the city of Garowe, many of the government ministries and headquarters of international organizations.

Martisoor Hotel is a favorite meeting spot for business and leisure. Our central metropolitan location is as unique as our guests who stay here with immediate vicinity to the flamboyant city with business activities.

Martisoor Hotel Offers the following services; Accommodation, Conference/Workshop, Training and Restaurant, Banqueting Parties, Team Building and. Concierge services for car hire, city and airport shuttle are also available at a fee. Adequate on-site parking is available. The hotel’s attentive personnel can arrange for laundry and dry cleaning services. The premises are guarded round-the-clock by security personnel and 24/7 CCTV surveillance.

Job brief

We are looking for an experienced General Manager/Hotel Manager to oversee our hotel’s daily operations and provide strategic direction. The hotel manager will plan and supervise the activities of an extensive and diverse workforce to ensure the smooth and profitable running of the business.

The hotel manager must be involved in all hotel operations. You will be just as responsible for dealing with complaints as strategizing and preparing reports. You will be a crucial reference person for employees, clients, and external vendors.

The hotel manager must be able to guide the employees to work as a well-functioning team. Therefore, the ideal candidate will be a team player and an effective leader, able to set examples and foster a climate of cooperation.

The goal is to enhance customer dedication and expand our clientele by strengthening our hotel’s reputation.

To meet the above job brief, Martisoor Hotel invites applications for the General manager/Hotel Manager position. Under the guidance of the Martisoor hotel Board of Directors, he/she will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hotel as well as providing strategic direction.

Functions and Responsibilities:

• Supervise work at all levels (receptionists, kitchen staff, housekeepers, office employees, etc.) and set clear objectives
• Develop terms of references and recruit, train, and monitor staff
• Plan activities and allocate responsibilities to achieve the most efficient operating model
• Develop and plan work schedules for individuals and teams.
• Prepare and execute the budget approved by the Board of Directors and propose amendments to such budget.
• Manage budgets/expenses, analyze and interpret financial information and monitor sales and profits
• Develop and implement an intuitive and efficient marketing strategy to promote the hotel’s services
• When appropriate, communicate with customers (welcome them in the facilities, address their complaints, find solutions to problems, offer information, etc.)
• Deal with maintenance issues, shortages in staff or equipment, renovations, etc.
• Collaborate with external parties such as contractors, suppliers, travel agencies, corporates, Government, NGOs, event/conference planners, etc.
• Carry out inspections of property and services and maintain the standard of the hotel.
• Inspect facilities regularly and enforce strict compliance with health and safety standards

Qualifications Selection Criteria:

The hotel manager should have the following skills and knowledge:

• Suitability to undertake the responsibilities mentioned above; Capable highly works in a team of highly professional international and national staff and administrative staff.
• Minimum five (5) years of proven experience as Hotel Manager or relevant role
• Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages is a plus
• Understanding of all hotel management best practices and applicable laws and guidelines
• Working knowledge of MS Office; knowledge of hotel management software (PMS) is an advantage
• Numeracy and logistical planning skills
• Excellent customer service skills as well as a business mindset
• Demonstrable aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
• Reliable with an ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
• Outstanding leadership skills and great attention to detail
• priority will be given to the Somali nationals
• A University Degree in Management, Hotel/Hospitality Management or relevant field

Reporting Relationships:

• The General Manager/Hotel Manager will report to the Board of Directors of Martisoor Hotel.

Additional Information

The successful candidate will be offered an internationally competitive compensation package in US dollars. This is a 1-year fixed-term appointment with the possibility of extension.
