Terms of Reference (TOR) Partnership in Piloting Sustainable Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) for Girls in Rural Schools
Slaight Foundation – Restoring Dignity Project
Background
Restoring dignity is a four-year project funded by the Slaight Family Foundation with the objective of supporting girls in rural schools in Somalia manage menstrual hygiene challenges and reduce MHM related absenteeism from school and other related health challenges.
Objective of the TOR
CARE intends to partner with local entities producing sanitary pads to pilot reusable comfortable and appropriate sanitary pads as well as explore alternative solutions which meet girls’ needs and later scale up through approval for use in schools by the government.
Deliverables
The following are the deliverables of the TOR
- Provision of re-usable sanitary pads or other locally produced sanitary solutions to girls in a sample of schools and conducting a survey on the products.
- Training of mothers and girls’ groups on production of sanitary pads from locally available appropriate materials.
- Linking mothers and girls’ groups to sources of materials and possibly cottage equipment for production of appropriate re-usable sanitary pads and other locally produced sanitary solutions.
- Production of the appropriate sanitary pads to scale up the provision of the re-usable sanitary pads to girls in all project target schools.
Preferred Qualifications/competency:
- Existing initiatives for production of appropriate re-usable sanitary pads and other sanitary products that can be scaled up to reach all areas of Somalia.
- Ability to supply appropriate locally produced re-usable sanitary pads and other sanitary pads for the piloting stage of the project.
- Evidence of experience in training mothers and girls’ groups in similar initiatives.
Time Frame
This partnership is expected to last six months.
Submission of Applications:
Interested consultants must submit technical and financial proposal based on the terms of reference above mentioned. The technical proposal should include; Expression of Interest, profile of the consultant/firm including experience in handling similar assignment, references who have had direct work relation with the consultant, samples of previous translation work done.
