TERMS OF REFERNCE FOR PROVISION OF TRAINING SERVICES FOR 50 SMALL SCALE WOMEN TRADERS IN KISMAYO, SOMALIA.

  1. PREAMBLE

SIF started humanitarian operations in Somalia with the opening of a field office in Kismayo in August 2014. From the inception of its work in Somalia, SIF confined its operations only to the Kismayo District,where many IPD Camps holding thousand of households were established. . SIF implemented several emergency and resilience building projects in food security, WASH and education sectors in Kismayo.

The overall objective of this business development project is to contribute to the improvement of food security and livelihood of the most vulnerable Host Communities, IDPs and Returnees in Kismayo, Somalia.  The benefciairies will hopefull get skills in small business management  which they will use to scale up their small businesses in different areas.

  1. OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The main objective of this consultancy will be to equip 50 selected small traders with knowledge and business skills using the Competency–Based Economies through Formation of Enterprise (CEFE) approach.

Specific Objectives;

  • To create an interactive learning platform for women entrepreneurs to acquire business skills, that will result in greater entrepreneurial competencies, efficiency and productivity;
  • To provide business development services (including access to finance, access to markets, and other business support services), to 50 participants.

On completion of the training, all participants should have the ability:

  • To identify and develop business ideas;
  • To develop bankable business plans;
  • To receive grant and improve their business(es);
  • To conduct assessment for a feasible business idea;
  • To address the most urgent need for business management.
  • To profitably manage their small business towards growth and sustainability.

  1. THE TRAINING METHODOLOGY /APPROACH

The training shall be based on experiential learning method using structured and unstructured learning exercises including in-house training, field visit, practical exercises, and mentorship.. The training shall develop and enhance the business management and personal entrepreneurial competencies of the participants.

  1. IMPLEMENTATION

The consultant will fulfil the tasks outlined below-

  • Materials Preparation:

The trainer shall prepare materials which shall be used in the training and which shall be in consultation with the program team. The consultant shall prepare and provide SIF with an acceptable work plan to carry out the training over the directed number of days.

  • Administer simple pre/post-training testing

This will be developed in collaboration with SIF to gauge the quantum change in beneficiaries’ understanding of various concepts as presented using an applicable CEFE model. The measure will allow the consultant to also report on the extent to which the participants understood the concepts presented and ensure that relevant modifications could be done for subsequent other trainings and/or follow-up.

  • Training on entrepreneurial competencies, market and marketing, production & organization and financial planning.

The trainer will be expected to carry out the training which should be participatory and which will be delivered at the level of the participants. The trainer will therefore prepare materials which will help him/her affectively carry out the training.

  • Provision of business development services to all beneficiaries using an appropriate approach

For the provision of business development services to all beneficiaries using an appropriate approach, (and subsequent follow-up model), this will be developed in collaboration with SIF Program Manager.

  1. HONORARIUM

Honorarium for the trainer shall be a daily figure of USD …150… For the entire period of the training which shall be ……5………… days and which shall include personal costs, associated costs, and any basic provisions necessary for the discharge of the activities. The consultant is required to provide a training report once the training has been completed.

  1. CONFIDENTIALITY

The trainer is expected to keep information relating to this contract in strict confidence and treat all information gained in the course of carrying out his/her responsibility as privileged unless otherwise advised.

  1. DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT

The assignment shall be for a fixed period of …5………. days and shall begin on …………………31st of …July 2022……. and end on …4th of August 2022………………………….

Where there is serious cause, the contractual relationship can be terminated in writing by either party to it with immediate effect. In this event, the trainer will receive remuneration on pro-rata basis up to the time that he/she shall have delivered.

The trainer should provide:

  • A program of the proposed training highlighted the objectives and outcomes
  • CV and diplomas
  • Past experience references or letter of recommendation
  • Quotation with the following information :

–        Contact information (Name/ address / phone number)

–        Date of submission

–        The unit price / total price/ VAT included

–        Quotation validity at least 30 days

–        Date / Signature / Stamp
