Job description

Specific Responsibilities for Each Category of Trainer required. Baidoa (maximum 5 short-term positions) 1. Henna 2. Nail Technician-Manicure/pedicure 3. Body/facial scrub 4. Make up Artist 5. Facial Application

  • Salon – Henna Trainer, Baidoa (maximum 1 position)

Henna Teaching

  • Design and deliver a brief curriculum teaching the basics of henna application on the skin; including mixing the henna paint and drawing designs on the skin.
  • Salon – Nail Technician Trainer, Baidoa (maximum 1 position)

Nail Care

  • Design and deliver a brief curriculum teaching basic manicure and pedicure, including but not limited to professional image, hygiene, decontamination and infection control, manicuring and pedicuring, nail tips/extensions, nail art, first aid, and chemical/chemistry relating to products.
  • Salon – Face and Body Scrub Trainer, Baidoa (maximum 1 position)

Face and Body Scrub

  • Production: design and deliver a brief curriculum teaching how to produce natural face and body scrubs
  • Application: design and deliver a brief curriculum teaching how to apply natural face and body scrubs
  • Additional topics will include professional image, hygiene, decontamination and infection control, structure and functions of skin, chemistry related to skin care, and facial procedures (including scrubs and masks)
  • Salon – Makeup Artist Trainer, Baidoa (maximum 1 position)

Makeup

  • Design and deliver a brief curriculum teaching students basic makeup application techniques including different types of foundations, blush, bronzers, contour, eye shadows, eye liners, mascaras (including application of false eyelashes)
  • Additional topics will include professional image, hygiene, decontamination and infection control, structure and functions of skin, chemistry related to skin care, and makup application for different situations
  • Salon – Facial Application Trainer, Baidoa (maximum 1 position)

Facials

  • Design and deliver a brief curriculum teaching student’s how to produce basic facial products
  • Design and deliver a brief curriculum teaching students how to conduct skin facials, including but not limited to professional image, hygiene, decontamination and infection control, structure and functions of skin, chemistry related to skin care, facial processes (facial cleansing, steaming, toning, massaging) and application of face products suited to different skin conditions

Qualifications for all Trainers

  • Completed High school or relevant hair and beauty salon certification is preferable;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating your own salon with direct experience in the above skill(s) or working at a beauty salon performing the above required skill(s).

Knowledge and Understanding: for all Trainers

  • Practical and theoretical understanding of effective teaching and learning strategies

Overview of position

The client is an implementing partner for the Federal Government of Somalia’s (FGoS) National Programme for the Treatment and Handling of Disengaged Combatants. The National Programme maintains the objective of establishing a comprehensive process that allows for low-risk disengaged combatants and women associated with AS to socially and economically reintegrate into society through transition centres in Baidoa. This support includes the provision of basic education, civic education, religious counselling, and life skills, business, financial literacy and vocational training. The client’s (DDRR) unit is seeking to recruit a minimum of one, a maximum of five experienced TVET Trainers in Salon provide full-time, short-term instruction to female beneficiaries in Baidoa. These roles will teach adult students basic salon treatments for the purpose of supporting them in livelihoods. The trainers will take turns to teach, following the designed curriculums/work plan. These positions are jointly managed by the Government and the client in Baidoa, with dual reporting requirements. This contract receives day-to-day and week-to-week oversight from the administrative manager (Administrative Assistant) with support from technical staff (Livelihood Team Leader, Livelihood Project Officer, Education Coordinator) and other staff. Overall contract performance management is jointly monitored and evaluated by the client and the government partner.

Role objectivesThis is a casual labour position as per Somali Labour Laws based in Baidoa. The specific duties and responsibilities of the role include: General Responsibilities for all Trainers

  • Create, update and maintain training materials, manuals, handouts, and practice exercises for efficient and effective delivery of the skills.
  • Develop hands on activities to help students learn salon treatments through both one-on-one and group engagement, adapting resources to ensure all students are able to make progress.
  • Provide a stimulating learning environment and provide additional assistance to students with particular learning needs and abilities; instruct in a manner that develops students’ confidence and their abilities; integrate a variety of teaching strategies and curriculum content
  • Maintain standardized student assessments and record keeping system for student progress and attendance; assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of students.
  • Establish rapport/trust with students;
  • Give explanations, reasonable and appropriate assignments, and directions clearly;
  • Organize the classroom to contribute to the learning process;
  • Perform other duties related to the DDR program as assigned by supervisor.
