Background
Somaliland Non-State Actors forum SONSAF is a leading civil society platform that aims to engage all Somaliland Non-Stat actors by improving their capacity and position. Since its establishment in 2008, SONSAF’s mission and primary objective are to enhance non-state actor’s voice through better coordination and networking that contributes to helping Non-state actors to possess a vibrant space in policy dialogue arena especially, peacebuilding, security, democratization, development sustainability and have concrete influence in formulating policies that address the needs of all citizens. Overall, civil society and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) can influence individual behavior and the institutions involved in all development sectors.
SONSAF is awarded an eighteen-month project entitled ‘Peaceful Elections (PEACE)’. The eighteen months project is funded by the European Union and has two main objectives:
- Monitoring and reducing electoral tensions through Election Situation Room (ESR) across Somaliland and
- Increasing Women’s, youth and minorities participation in Somaliland’s electoral and governance processes in the pre-election, election and post-election periods
Under the overall guidance of the Program Coordinator, the Website Development Consultant will be responsible for providing a platform for young women with leadership aspirations to interact with leading women figures and politicians. In close cooperation with a Political Consultant the Website Developer will design a leadership resource center where all material will be made accessible to educate young women on all aspects of governance in Somaliland.
This online resource center will provide a platform where women candidates can connect with university students and young political activist, allowing them to act as role-models and share their experience of the political process. The website will also be a platform for discussions to deepen their understanding of women in leadership and lessons learned forums as well as debates and dialogues on women in politics and the Somaliland gender gap.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Program Manager and Project Coordinator the Website Developer will perform the following tasks:
- Take part in a full web development lifecycle
- Develop the web pages according to SONSAF requirement specifications by incorporating the required content
- Create / Modify the web pages’ style and layout according to the changes in the schema Develop
- Use search engine optimization principles to garner more visibility online
- reporting feature for Flash Reports and Summary Dashboards
- Make the site more user-friendly by using CSS and JavaScript
- Ensure the security of the website is always maintained
- Perform other related duties as required
Required skills and Experience
- At least 3 years’ experience in software and web development
- Proficiency in graphic design software including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and other visual design tools.
- Proficiency in front-end development web programming languages such as HTML and CSS, jQuery, and JavaScript.
- Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues.
- Knowledge of the software development life cycle
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing is essential
- High level time management skills with ability to meet crucial deadlines
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali
Academic qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software or Computer Engineering.
Institutional arrangement
The consultant will work under the guidance and direct supervision of Program Coordinator, and will be responsible for the fulfilment of the deliverables as specified above.
- The Consultant will be responsible for providing her/his own laptop
- The Consultant will be given access to relevant information and data necessary for execution of the tasks under this assignment
- The Consultant will be required to work at the SONSAF head office
